A New Way to Present Project Progress with Excel and PowerPoint

Updated: Aug 7

In search of a more flexible and visually engaging way to present project progress, I created this dashboard using a combination of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint—two tools that, when used creatively, can produce results beyond what many management software platforms offer.

The idea was to move away from the standard static reports and bring in a more interactive, fluid way to explore progress details. Instead of displaying everything on one crowded slide, I designed a layout that lets you navigate through project components easily, section by section. With just a few clicks, you can move from one part of the project to another using built-in slide navigation.

I used the same concept to feature progress site photos. This allows you to not only present the data but also show real visual context behind each work package or phase—all within the same file, and without the need for external tools.

The charts were built entirely in Microsoft Excel, giving me the flexibility to customize every visual detail. The info-graphics and animations were created in PowerPoint, making the presentation more dynamic, readable, and audience-friendly.

This combination of Excel for data and PowerPoint for design results in a powerful reporting format that is both functional and beautiful. It’s perfect for progress reviews, internal updates, or even high-level client meetings.
